Pakistan shines at Huawei ICT Competition 2025-26 Global Final

SHENZHEN (CHINA), June 15 (ABC): Pakistan achieved outstanding success at the Huawei ICT Competition 2025-26 Global Final, held from June 2 to 5, 2026, in Shenzhen, China.

This year’s competition was the largest in its history. It attracted over 220,000 students and faculty members from more than 2,000 institutions across 100+ countries and regions. A total of 49 countries and over 175 teams competed in the global finals.

From Pakistan, around 12,000 students registered for the competition. After multiple rounds of national and regional examinations, three teams qualified to represent Pakistan at the global stage. Each team comprised three students and one instructor.

Instructor wins Grand Prize

Pakistan celebrated a major achievement as Muhammad Rashid Mukhtar from COMSATS University Islamabad won the Grand Prize in the Huawei ICT Teaching Competition. He also received the prestigious Most Valuable Instructor Award. The award recognized his teaching excellence and contribution to ICT education.

Pakistani teams secure top honours

In the Practice and Innovation tracks, the Pakistan Computing Track Team secured the Second Prize, awarded by H.E. Mr. Khalil Hashmi, Pakistan’s Ambassador to China. The team included Nauman Sajjad from Lahore Garrison University, Adeeba Mubarak from the University of Engineering & Technology Taxila, and Hira Khurshid from COMSATS University Islamabad (Abbottabad Campus). Instructor Farman Ullah led the team.

The Pakistan Network Track Team earned the Third Prize, awarded by Syed Sohail Hussain Naqvi. The team consisted of Navera and Inamullah from Mehran University of Engineering & Technology Jamshoro and Muhammad Nouman Khan from Sindh Agriculture University Tandojam. Instructor Saqib Hussain from Mehran University of Engineering & Technology Jamshoro supervised the team.

The Pakistan Innovation Track Team also secured the Third Prize, awarded by Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq, Executive Director of HEC. The team included Muhammad Umer Farooq, Malik Uzzam Arif and Talha Asghar from FAST-NU Islamabad. Dr. Muhammad Asim led the team.

Officials praise students’ achievements

H.E. Mr. Khalil Hashmi, Pakistan’s Ambassador to China, attended the closing ceremony and awarded medals to the winning students. He commended their dedication and applauded Huawei’s continued efforts to empower young talent through global learning opportunities.

Prof. Dr. Zia ul Haq also attended the ceremony. He praised Huawei for providing a world-class platform. The platform enables Pakistani students to compete internationally and showcase their skills on a global stage.

Ahmed Bilal Masud, CEO AI and Cloud Business Huawei Pakistan, also appreciated the students’ achievements. He said Pakistan’s performance at the global finals reflected the country’s growing strength in the ICT sector and the remarkable potential of its youth.

He said such international platforms not only highlight the talent of Pakistani students but also inspire thousands more to pursue excellence in technology and innovation.

Pakistan’s strong performance across the Teaching, Computing, Network and Innovation tracks reflects the country’s growing ICT capabilities and the dedication of its students, instructors and institutions. These achievements highlight Pakistan’s potential to excel in emerging technologies and contribute meaningfully to the global digital landscape.
