LAHORE, July 22, 2023: The funeral prayer of DIG Shariq Jamal, who was mysteriously found dead in his Lahore flat, was offered in Icchra on Saturday afternoon.
DIG Operations Ali Nasir Rizvi, Additional IG Operations Punjab Shahzad Sultan, DIG Logistics Punjab Athar Ismail, DIG Amin Bokhari and people from other callings attended the funeral prayers.
DIG Jamal passed away mysteriously on Friday night and his body was found in flat 104 of Nishtar police station area. He had a residence in Defence Phase IV.
Police sources said the Defence police took a man and a woman into custody and also seized the food and utensils from his house for investigation.
DIG Jamal was taken to hospital with blood flowing from his mouth and nose. He was pronounced dead.
The late Jamal had earlier served as DIG Traffic and DIG Railways. He completed training for promotion to Grade 21. He was on special duty (OSD) these days.
DIG Jamal was found dead at a flat during the wee hours of Saturday night. The incident prompted police to start investigation into the matter to ascertain facts behind the death.
According to police, the body of DIG Shariq Jamal Khan was found from a private flat 104/A and was shifted to National Hospital, however later it was moved to Jinnah Hospital for postmortem examination. Moreover, efforts are being made by police to find out the clue to his death.
Reportedly, the deceased DIG resided in Defence phase 4, the area falls under the jurisdiction of Defence-A police station whereas the flat comes under the jurisdiction of Nishtar police station.
A case regarding the incident has been registered on the complaint of deceased DIG’s wife.
