PESHAWAR , May 26, 2023: The Meteorological Department on Friday issued a forecast stating that a new series of rains is expected to commence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa starting from Sunday.

In light of this announcement, the director general of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has instructed the district administration to undertake precautionary measures in anticipation of thundershowers and hailstorms.

The district administration has been urged to ensure the availability of small heavy machinery to deal with any potential emergencies.

The PDMA, in a statement, emphasized the need for farmers to make necessary preparations considering the forecasted rains, as strong winds and hailstorms could pose risks to crops. It is vital for farmers to take appropriate measures to safeguard their activities and minimize potential damage to their fields.

The director general of PDMA further emphasized the importance of monitoring stormwater drains to prevent flooding and raised awareness about the potential adverse effects of the rainfall on standing crops and livestock.

Additionally, travelers should be warned in advance about the expected weather conditions on both provincial and national highways, particularly in sensitive areas.

The letter from PDMA also stressed the need to transfer people to safe waiting areas in a timely manner. Emergency services personnel should be readily available during the rainy spell to address any emergencies that may arise. Special precautions should be taken to ensure the safety of tourists traveling in the region.

It has been stated that the PDMA and Provincial Emergency Operations Center (PEOC) should be promptly informed about the situation as it unfolds. The forecast suggests that the intermittent rainfall is likely to persist until May 31.

As the anticipated rains approach, it is crucial for the authorities, farmers, and residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to remain vigilant and take the necessary precautions to mitigate any potential risks associated with the forthcoming weather conditions.
