Oct 28(ABC): There’s no stopping Bilal Lashari and Ammara Hikmat’s magnum opus. The Legend of Maula Jatt has already achieved a historic milestone, only in its second week of release. According to Deadline, the Fawad Khan and Hamza Ali Abbas-starrer is the first to cross PKR 100cr ($4.5 million) globally.
The publication, while sharing the box-office numbers, revealed, “Through Tuesday, The Legend of Maula Jatt had taken PKR115 crore ($5.2 million). Of that, PKR33 crore ($1.5million) is from the home country and PKR82 crore ($3.7 million) is from offshore markets. In the UK, it is the highest-grossing Punjabi movie ever with £866K ($1 million) through Wednesday.”
The report further added, “In the US, the epic across two weekends has done $728,000, and in Canada $525,000 through Sunday. Midweek performance has also been strong, notably in the UK, Canada and Australia.”
On the 10th day of its release and seems like has surpassed two recently released Bollywood films at the global box office. Two Diwali releases, Akshay Kumar and Jacqueline Fernandez’s Ram Setu alongside Ajay Devgn and Sidharth Malhotra’s Thank God, failed to attract an international audience. Indian film trade analyst took to Twitter and shared that Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan-starrer has managed to pull in more numbers on its 13th day than the aforementioned Indian films on their day of release.
“Ram Setu and Thank God at least managed fair collections on day one in India on account of the Diwali holiday, but both fared poor Overseas. Pakistani film The Legend of Maula Jatt on 13th day is higher than both Bollywood films on their 1st day,” Nahta shared on Twitter.
The phenomenal response to the film has led to full house screenings across the world and queues outside cinemas, with exhibitors continuously scheduling additional screenings to meet consumers’ demands. Such has been the adulation for the film that standing ovations have been recorded at cinemas globally. The number of screens for the movie are increasing every day.
A reboot of Yunus Malik’s 1979 cult classic Maula Jutt, the film is a re-telling of the story of the rivalry between Maula Jatt and Noori Natt. Directed by Lashari, The Legend of Maula Jatt also stars Khan, Hamza Ali Abbasi, Humaima Malick, Mirza Gohar Rasheed, Faris Shafi, Ali Azmat, Nayyer Ejaz, Shafqat Cheema, Raheela Agha, Zia Khan and Saima Baloch.
