Those convicted by courts cannot become public office holders: IHC

ISLAMABAD, May 27 (ABC): Islamabad High Court (IHC) has remarked those convicted by court cannot become public office holders.

A petition filed against the appointment of Hanif Abbasi as special advisor to Prime Minister came up for hearing before single bench of IHC led by Chief Justice (CJ) Athar Minallah here Friday.

Deputy Attorney General (DAG) represented  federation while counsels for Sheikh Rashid and Hanif Abbasi appeared in the court.

The counsel for Hanif Abbasi requested the court we want  time to file reply.

The court remarked those who are convicted should not be public office holders. The convicted persons should themselves be not public office holders. This court does not intervene in executive matters. Prime Minister has done what so far.

DAG told  the court summary has been sent to Prime Minister and federal cabinet.

The court remarked if summary has been sent then why the prime minister has not reviewed it. There is clear decision of Supreme Court (SC).Those convicted by court can not become public office holder.

The court adjourned the hearing of the case till June 02.
