QUETTA, Aug 29(ABC): Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa Sunday said that the rescue operations in flood-affected areas is almost over and now the rehabilitation process has begun which would take years to complete.
In a recorded message, the chief of army staff stated that he has been visiting flood-affected areas for the last few days.
“Yesterday I was in Balochistan’s area of Uthal and Bela and today I am here in Khaipur, Sindh, and the devastations here are massive,” he said, adding that the federal, provincial governments, Pakistan Army, Navy, Airforce, welfare organisations are putting all-out efforts to provide rescue.
“However, the magnitude of these floods is massive and reconstruction and rehabilitation would take time,” Gen Bajwa added.
He appealed to the affluent to step forward and contribute in order to help those affected by the floods
“Come forward and help us in whatever manner you can — financially or through the material — so that we can rehabilitate those affected,” he said.
