PPP wants President Arif Alvi to resign

ISLAMABAD, July 14 (ABC): The Pakistan Peoples Party has demanded of President Dr Arif Alvi to tender his resignation.

PPP Secretary General Nayyar Bukhari said in a statement on Thursday that after the Supreme Court’s detailed verdict explaining the reasons behind its decision to set aside a controversial ruling by the National Assembly speaker Qasim Suri on April 3 that dismissed the no-confidence motion against then prime minister Imran Khan, Dr Alvi had lost all justifications to remain as country’s president.

Mr Bukhari said that after the SC decision, Imran Khan – the liar and violator of the constitution – would become disqualified. As per the court ruling, Article 6 applies on Imran Khan, he added. The PPP leader hailed the Supreme Court decision saying it upheld the constitution.

He said that then speaker and deputy speaker’s violation of their oaths in order to grant favour to Imran Khan was tantamount to a violation of the constitution. Mr Bukhari was of the view that Dr Arif Alvi, Imran Khan, Asad Qaiser and Qasim Suri also committed violation of Article 5.
