LAHORE , May 29, 2023: Dr Anoosh Masood Chaudhry, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Investigation in Lahore, on Monday quashed PTI’s allegation about misbehaviour with women in jail.
The claim follows the arrest of several women in connection with the May 9 events, sparking concerns about their mistreatment while in custody.
Dr Anoosh vehemently denied any mistreatment of women prisoners, stressing that every woman in their custody was being taken care of.
She stated, “There is no question of misbehaving with women in jail.”
The SSP assured the public that she had met the women individually and provided necessary facilities, particularly addressing the concerns of Khadija Shah, who reportedly had medical issues. “We have met Khadija Shah, who has medical problems, and facilities have been provided to those who require assistance,” she stated.
To ensure the well-being of the women prisoners, Dr Anoosh highlighted the presence of medical officers available 24 hours a day. She also stressed that no man could enter the facility, reaffirming the commitment to the safety and dignity of the women in custody.
Addressing the general condition of the women detainees, the SSP stated, “All women here are important to us, and we have met with others as well. They are fine and do not have any problems.”
In response to concerns regarding the specific case of Khadija Shah, Dr Anoosh said she had been under their supervision for two to three days. She assured the presence of a specialist psychiatrist, access to a library, clean water and arrangements for clothing.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Rafia Haider also claimed that all the women were being treated well and there were no complaints.
