ISLAMABAD , May 9, 2023: National Accountability Burea (NAB) arrested former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chief Imran Khan on Tuesday in Ql-Qadir Trust case.
Saifullah Niazi said that the PTI chief was arrested from Islamabad High Court premises.
He was shifted to NAb Rawalpindi office. Police team was asisted by Pakistan Rangers personnel. .
PTI lawyer Faisal Chaudhry confirmed the development.
PTI Vice President Fawad Chaudhry tweeted that the IHC had been “occupied by the Rangers” and lawyers “are being subjected to torture”.
“Imran Khan’s car has been surrounded,” he added.
In another tweet Fawad Chaudhry said that Imran Khan was abducted from court premises.
Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Amir Farooq sprang into action and summoned IGP and Secretary Interior within 15 minutes in court. He said it should be clear which case and why Imran Khan had been arrested. He said the act was patently wrong. He said he will summon Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif if IGP and Secretary Interior not appeared in court. He further said that he could take action against Prime Minister and other ministers too.
Al-Qadir Trust case
Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and their close aides Zulfiqar Bukhari and Babar Awan, have been involved in Al-Qadir University Project Trust.
Documents reveal that Khan, Bushra Bibi, Bukhari, and Awan formed Al-Qadir University Project Trust. It was aimed to set up ‘Al-Qadir University’ for imparting ‘quality education’ in Tehsil Sohawa of District Jhelum, Punjab.
The office address of the trust has been mentioned as “Bani Gala House, Islamabad”.
Later, the trustees inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a private company involved in real estate business, Bahria Town, to receive donations from the latter.
For the proposal, Bahria Town allotted land measuring 458 Kanal, 4 Marla, 58 square feet to the trust. Fulfilling paper formalities, Bushra Bibi signed the MoU with Bahria Town effective from March 2019.
