LAHORE , May 3, 2023: The World Economic Forum has released its new findings about the situation of jobs in the world. It said almost 83 million jobs would become useless till 2027 while nearly 69 million new jobs would emerge.
The WEF in its report titled, “Future of jobs 2023” said there are 23 percent chance of the changes in job in the world while raising warnings for employment regarding data entry as almost 8 million jobs would be lost in the next five years. It added the total number of job holders – both formal and informal – are 3.3 billion.
In Pakistan, the report said, the shift in jobs would be at 30 percent as there would be rise of artificial intelligence, machine learning and data segments. Contrarily, in India and China changes in jobs would be at approximately 22 and 23 percent.
The report focuses on the total number and categories of job holders in Pakistan. It said almost 85 million people are qualified for jobs, however out of them only 48 million are in job market – or 57 percent. Out of the total labour force of the country, almost 55 percent linked with the uncertain set of jobs – in other words, 26 million people’s future is uncertain.
The report added almost 35 youth are not linked with any job or education while 80 percent of the labour force is connected to informal economy adding only 20 percent population has social protection.
