GUJARAT , April 26, 2023: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Chief, Sirajul Haq, on Wednesday stated that the upcoming elections should be held on the collective will of all political parties and not just on one party’s will.

He criticized Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for making a person (Parvez Elahi), who was previously called a big dacoit by Imran Khan, their party president.

He also criticized Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) for making Shehbaz Sharif prime minister, even though Shehbaz Sharif had previously claimed to drag PPP on the roads.

Mr Haq urged all political parties to agree to hold simultaneous elections across the country for the betterment of the country.

He stated that neither emergency nor martial law was the solution to the current situation. The meeting of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) on Wednesday was a test of PDM’s ability to unite political parties.

JI chief added that it was the prime minister’s responsibility to convince political parties to hold elections.

He warned that some politicians still want to see martial law, even though they claim to support democracy. He said that there is no harm to political leaders whether there is martial law or so-called democracy in the country.

He also warned that if political parties do not come on the same page regarding the elections, there would be no general elections, only local elections. The call for collective will in the upcoming elections is critical to ensure a fair and democratic process.
